La DSDEN des Yvelines est un service déconcentré de l'Etat, dirigé par un IA-DASEN, adjoint au Recteur et responsable de la mise en oeuvre des politiques publiques éducatives dans le premier et le second degré sur le territoire départemental. La direction académique gère tous les moyens et personnels du premier degré (930 écoles et près de 9 000 professeurs dont 450 contractuels environ répartis sur 30 circonscriptions) et les moyens du second degré (115 collèges, 2 ERPD et 49 lycées) en liaison avec les services du Rectorat. Plus de 300.000 élèves sont scolarisés dans les Yvelines dont 40.000 dans le privé répartis dans 45 écoles, 22 collèges et 23 lycées relevant de l'enseignement privé sous contrat. Une université se trouve dans le département (Versailles-Saint-Quentin).
