La mission s'intègre dans la participation au rayonnement musical de Lyon et de sa région, tout particulièrement de la Primatiale Saint Jean de Lyon. L’objectif de la maîtrise est de permettre à des enfants de 8 ans jusqu’à l’âge adulte de suivre une formation vocale et musicale la plus complète qu’il soit, par la pratique du chant collectif et individuel afin qu’il découvre la diversité des styles et la richesse du répertoire choral. Le matériau privilégié est la voix dans un souci d’une formation globale. Il ne s’agit pas de former des enfants « voix », mais des enfants musiciens. L’objectif étant d’accompagner les chanteurs dans leur développement avec une importance particulière portée aux capacités individuelles et collectives, de responsabilité et de confiance.
